Shares in home assistance firm Homeserve touched a new high of 1699p before the recent sell-off and recent results were also strong and ahead of expectations. For the year ended 31 March, pretax profit increased 28% to £53.6m on turnover up 66% at £367m. Earnings rose 25% to 59.2p. Following expenditure of £35m on acquisitions, Homeserve ended the year with net debt of £16.3m but debt interest is still more than 40 times covered by profit. The largest division, Policy Membership (formerly Homeservice), which sells annual insurance policies to cover emergency repair services such as plumbing, drainage and heating, performed very well with revenue increasing 26% to £161m and profit rising 9% to £ ...
