YouGov, which is best known for its opinion polls at election time, has seemingly appeared from nowhere to become a major force in the world of online market research. The company has attracted quite a following since it floated in April last year at 135p, while latest forecasts point to pretax profit soaring from £0.7m in 2004 to £3.5m this year and £4.3m in 2007. With its market cap having swollen to £57m, it is now within the radar of several small cap funds, who are likely to appreciate the fact that it operates in a global online market research industry which has quadrupled in size to US$1.6 billion over the last five years.
