In spite of increasingly tough conditions in the property sector, self-storage firm Big Yellow has announced reassuring results. For the year ended 31 March revenues rose 11% to £56.9m while underlying pretax profit fell 6% to £13.3m with the decline reflecting higher interest costs and also a higher cost of debt. Including property revaluations, profit was almost £152m, which helped drive a 19% increase in net asset value (NAV) to 520p per share. Net debt increased from £188m to £282m reflecting the increased investment in the development pipeline of new sites, giving gearing of 48%.Occupied space at the period end was 2% higher than a year ago at 1.82m sq. ft.
