Energy security is a hot topic these days and none more so than in the fast-growing economy of India, which has experienced a consistent power deficit in the past five years. This partly explains the extremely strong debut by shares in OPG Power Ventures, a highly profitable operator and developer of power plants in India. After being introduced to AIM on 30 May at 60p by broker Cenkos, in a placing which raised £65.1m before expenses, the shares raced ahead to a high of 80.5p before settling back at 75.5p, valuing the company at £217m. As well as being in the right place at the right time investors have latched on to the fact that OPG intends to massively expand its capacity from 19 MW of power to nearly 2400 MW within five years.
