Shares in Big Yellow, the largest operator of self-storage centres in the UK, have endured a tough time since the start of the credit crunch, falling from a peak of 705p in December '06 to a low of 159p in February. However, with several leading indicators pointing towards an improvement in activity we took the opportunity to meet with chief executive James Gibson at one of the group's stores in Kennington, South London. While he was naturally cautious about immediate prospects he stressed that growth in the medium-term is virtually built in through a combination of younger stores starting to mature and the development of its pipeline of sites, which have planning but aren't yet built.
