For much of this year the FTSE has been climbing a great wall of worry but there are signs of it finally cracking, having fallen 4.3% to 5699. It doesn't help that investors are happy to sit on the sidelines, quaffing champagne at Royal Ascot or enjoying other worthy distractions but the elephant in the room is the prospect of another Greek debt crisis. European leaders are dangerously divided on whether to instigate another bailout or allow the Mother of all defaults and the latter would be the financial equivalent of unleashing a large box of fireworks to zip around a confined space.
