For a company best known for supplying safety barriers across the UK's motorway network, Hill & Smith might not seem an obvious growth share in the light of the Government's cutbacks to public expenditure. But helped by some canny acquisitions as well as the introduction of new products, Hill & Smith has shown a clean pair of heels with pretax profit increasing from £17.3m to £37.4m and eps from 20.7p to 34.5p over the past five years, a rate of growth more typical of a highly rated technology stock.
