Shares in industrial tapes group, Scapa, finally woke up after its results beat expectations. For the year to 31 March revenues grew almost 7% to £209m, while pretax profit and eps rose an impressive 34% to £12.7m and 5.6p respectively. Operating margins rose from 6.0% to 6.4%, while in a tidying up exercise Scapa sold off the subsidiary holding its asbestos liabilities. Year-end net cash was £7.6m.Scapa's mainstay is the supply of tape for a range of industrial and transport applications such as wrapping and protecting cables and this side saw operating profit unchanged at £7.2m. This reflected a 3.5% decline in sales to £141m, due to difficult trading conditions in Europe, offset by a 0.2% gain in operating margin to 5.1%, ...
