Against a backdrop of flat UK grocery volumes and record UK pig prices (the key input cost), pork processor Cranswick produced a creditable 6% rise in pretax profit to £52.2m while eps rose 7% to 84.1p, both slightly ahead of forecasts. Sales rose 14% to £995m and all categories except sandwiches contributed. Fresh pork rose 15%, helped by 10% growth in exports and sales benefit from the relatively low price of pork compared with lamb and beef. To support future growth a substantial investment is being made in its Norfolk facility, including a new rapid chiller, which will increase capacity and improve yields.
