Sentiment continues to run against buy-to-let (BTL) lender Paragon due to increased stamp duty on second homes, a regulatory tightening in lending criteria and a controversial tax aimed at private landlords. Nevertheless Paragon still released creditable half year results with pretax profit up 12.5% to £72.2m in line with forecasts and boosted by a first time contribution from Paragon Bank Asset Finance (formerly Five Arrows Leasing).
