Cranswick -Shares break through £30 barrier

Who would have thought that when we tipped meat processor Cranswick at 1158p in February ‘13 it would be touching an amazing £30 today? Final results (which triggered another upgrade) showed turnover, pretax and eps rising 22.5%, 17.2% and 18% respectively to £1,245m, £75.5m and 120.9p. Back in 2012 eps was just 72.9p.While market share gains in pork-based products - pulled pork has become more popular, while BBQ sausages always are – led to 15% like-for-like volume growth, it also benefited from two acquisitions. These were Crown Chicken (£40m consideration) in April 2016 and Dunbia Ballymena (undisclosed cost) last November. This was offset by the sale for £15m of its Sandwich business last July.
