SSP, the leading operator of food and beverage concessions in airports and train stations, issued superb interims showing pretax profit rising almost 50% to £34.7m. Eps increased 40% to 4.2p. This was achieved in spite of rising wage and food inflation coupled with higher pre-opening costs.The UK increased profit 12.1% to £29.7m (operating margin up from 7.5% to 8.1%) driven by growth in air passenger numbers and spend per head, while margin optimisation programs in retailing and procurement also helped.In Continental Europe profit rose 70% to £20.2m (margins +1.5% to 4.9%), with air travel again the strongest area, particularly the Nordics and Spain.
