B&M European Retail - Sales up 22.7% in first eight weeks!

The shares soared back above £4 at one point after B&M, the UK’s leading general merchandise value retailer, revealed strong Q4 figures for the 13 weeks ended 28th March and a strong start to the new financial year. In Q4, UK like-for-like sales grew 6.6% supported by stockpiling in grocery. Then the first eight weeks of FY’21 revealed like-for-like revenues up 22.7% despite a significant fall in footfall. Sales growth was 10.3% excluding DIY / gardening, which implies those seasonal categories grew over 60% helped by the warm, dry weather. Jefferies reckons B&M is eating some of German discounters Aldi / Lidl’s lunch, with their sales up only 7.3% in the 8 weeks to 17th May.
