The shares have recovered towards £6 after Smart Metering Systems, which installs and manages smart gas and electricity meters for private and commercial businesses, completed the sale of a minority stake in its I&C meter assets division to Equitix for £291m in cash (useful 16.5x EBITDA). At a stroke this smart piece of business (no pun intended) completely deleverages its balance sheet, repaying gross debt of c.£270m, drawn down from the previous £420m facility.
