When I first started writing TMI and contributing to sister title Small Company Sharewatch, the dot com bubble was about to burst leading to a painful three-year bear market. Growth “themes” were scarce. We had to search away from economically sensitive stocks, and niche healthcare shares provided a rich seam of growth, such as Shiloh, originally a family run cotton spinning company that later moved into cleansing wipes and incontinence pads, as well as Synergy Healthcare and Isotron, which both sterilise re-usable medical instruments and other equipment.
