With attention once again turning to the prospect of a wobble in consumer spending, take-away specialist Domino's Pizza might seem an odd recommendation for us to be making. However, Domino's has established a very profitable and virtually bullet-proof niche in feeding people who because of increasingly busier working and social lives, prefer to order in good value pizza rather than cook. To get an idea of Domino's pedigree, subscribers only need to study its record over the past three years, in which its pretax profit and underlying earnings have tripled to £9m and 12.9p respectively.
