Shares in Aquarius Platinum hit a new high of 900p before the recent pull-back with the high platinum price not surprisingly translating into strong third quarter results. Q3 profit climbed from US$16m to US$18.6m, while for the nine months ended 31 December, it was US$44.56m, more than double the US$20.95m made in the whole of 2005. Q3 growth came from both higher platinum group metal (PGM) prices and a 27% increase in production to 120,105 ounces. The latter was largely thanks to the successful start by its fourth mine, Everest South, which produced 46,081 ounces and is the key to Aquarius more than doubling annual production to over 650,000 ounces a year by 2007.
