Interim results from Connaught for the six months ended 28 February were as expected with pretax profit increasing 33% to £5.9m on turnover up 18% to £134m. Earnings rose 27% to 20p. Cashflow improved enough to reduce net debt from £11.2m to £9.5m. The order book also improved by 15% to £1.5 billion. Connaught’s social housing contracting business saw a 40% increase in operating profit to £5.8m, thanks to both a 19% rise in turnover and a strengthening in operating margin from 4.9% to 5.1% reflecting economies of scale, improved efficiencies and a more profitable sales mix.
