The shares crashed to 423p after Inter Link Foods announced an unexpected profit warning, noting that growth in earnings per share will be not less than 9% for the financial year which just ended on 6 May. Broker Numis now expects overall earnings of 43.6p and pretax profit of £7.1m, well down on its previous forecasts of 60.4p and £9.7m. The chief bugbear was a slowdown of sales growth in April and Numis estimates that Inter Link will undershoot its sales forecast of £142m by £10m. Unfortunately, the reduction in profit will be far greater because Inter Link had also spent significant sums on a promotional program to its customers, which failed to have the expected follow through to sales volumes.
