Powerflute, which joined AIM on 11 May in a placing by Collins Stewart at 110p per share, might seem an odd choice for an investment, given that its main asset is a paper mill in Finland. However, the company is backed by the influential Smurfit family, who know more than a little about the paper industry. Their old family business, paper and packaging firm, Jefferson Smurfit, established a stupendous 25 year record up to the early part of this century in which its shares appreciated more than 20% compound each year.
