Connaught has maintained its exemplary record with interims at the top end of forecasts, sending the shares back towards their all-time high. For the six months to 29 February, turnover rose 55% to £256m with pretax profit increasing 60% to £13m. Eps rose 40% to 7.6p. Connaught's defensive attributes are shown by its social housing maintenance division, which shrugged off the woes in property and construction by achieving a 45% jump in revenues to nearly £206m and a 51% increase in operating profit to £11.2m. The key to its success is that its client base is mainly well-funded local councils and housing associations and the stability of this business is nicely shown by the increase in its order book from £2bn to £2.5bn.
