MP Evans - Higher prices offset lower production

After tipping palm oil producer MP Evans at 386p, the shares at one point  soared to a high of 507p only to fall back slightly to 443p.  Nevertheless, with the palm oil price trading close to all time highs, MP Evans has announced record results. For the year to 31 December pretax profit increased 79% to US$46.6m, which includes a US$3.9m gain from land sales and a US$11.5m gain through a revaluation of its biological assets. Meanwhile, eps rose from nearly 50 cents to 82.3 cents. MP Evans had to contend with both a severe flood and a workers' strike, factors which resulted in a 10% decline in production to 80,000 tonnes.
