Shares in Glisten, which was originally established to “buy and build” a portfolio of confectionery businesses, have been a by-word for volatility with a long up-trend from its float at 80p in late 2002 to its eventual peak at 415p in November '07 being followed by a steepling crash to 41p in March. This might seem odd given its remarkably consistent record in which turnover had increased from nearly £21m in 2004 to almost £74m in 2008, while pretax profit has grown from £1.3m to £6.2m in the same period.
