Given the weakness in global economic activity, Tarsus, which organises major business events across Europe, the US and the Middle East, might not seem the most obvious candidate experiencing strong momentum. However, chief executive Doug Emslie, who we met with over the month, explains that Tarsus operates flagship events across the defence, medical and discount clothing sectors. Emslie notes that as its portfolio is dominated by market leading events, clients dare not pull out for fear of upsetting their customers or alerting rivals to perceived weakness and therefore its rivals operating smaller events are the ones taking the brunt of any cutbacks.
