Abcam, an online retailer of biological tools known as antibodies, which help researchers find cures for cancers and other diseases, announced strong interims. For the six months to 31 December sales rose 23.7% to £39.4m, while pretax profit increased 35% to £15.2m. Eps rose 32% to 6.17p, while net cash jumped from £33m to £47m. Abcam achieved strong growth in all geographies with sales up 21% in the US (its largest market) including a 30% jump in California following last year's opening of its San Francisco office. Elsewhere, sales grew 22% in Japan, 43% in Hong Kong and China, 30% in Rest of World (including Asia) and 10% in the UK, the only territory to be affected by Government budget cut-backs.Abcam has a slick and ...
