Shaft Sinkers, which sinks deep shafts in South Africa and other parts of the world, produced results that were ahead of expectations with pretax profit rising 34% to £16.7m, while eps rose 27% to 30p. This “beat†reflected the release of provisions against a poorly performing contract where problems have now been rectified and lower IPO costs. There were two particularly encouraging features including better than expected net cash of £10.6m, thanks largely to customer pre-payments and also a committed order book of £488m over the next four years.
