In order to gain its first foothold in the USA Synergy has announced the acquisition of BeamOne, the largest provider of outsourced, e-beam medical device sterilisation services for an initial US$35m cash. A deferred payment of up to a further US$20m will also be made depending on performance. BeamOne, which has FDA approved sites in California, Colorado, Pennsylvania as well as one in Costa Rica, generated revenues of US$14.3m and pretax profit of US$2.7m in the year to 31 December. The deal will give Synergy access to a US$600m market and provides a platform to develop a world class central sterilisation business for US hospitals and healthcare providers.
