The shares soared to an all-time high of 211p after Elementis’ trading update. In Speciality Products, Q1 sales were up 7% with coatings additives seeing 22% growth in USA, offsetting a 7% decline in Europe. Oilfield sales rose a whopping 42% reflecting strong demand for shale gas and other unconventional drilling, while personal care sales rose 3%.Its other division, Chromium, achieved a 13% jump in sales, partly reflecting the fact that in Q1 11 its Castle Hayne plant had been temporarily closed in order to convert from heavy fuel oil to using cheaper natural gas.
