The shares soared to a high of 574p after a strong fourth quarter update for the 13 weeks ending 28 March. The food division increased sales 3.7% (0.7% like for like) despite a “difficult, deflationary quarter for the food market.” However, the pleasant surprise was in general merchandise where sales rose 1.3% (0.7% like-for-like) with M&S.com growing a whopping 13.8%.
