While oil prices have been trashed by COVID-19 and the OPEC price war, other commodities are in fine fettle. Gold, seen as a safe haven in times of uncertainty and money printing, is the obvious one but a surprising boom is also occurring in uranium, whose primary end use is fuel for nuclear power plants, and which suffered a horrendous bear market in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear reactor disaster in Japan. However, maybe its time has come again with the price soaring by US$10 to US$34 per pound since late March.
