The shares surged after Lok ‘n Store said larger rival Shurgard had made a 1110p a share cash bid for the company. Directors have recommended the deal which implies a 41% premium to the volume weighted average price for the six-month period prior to the announcement. As Tom Sawyer once said, “buy land they’re not making it any more” and given the UK’s tough planning permission regime Shurgard is getting a high quality chunk of self storage stores with valuable development pipeline, which can’t easily be replicated. Nevertheless, given these soft conditions it’s probably a fair price as it vales the shares at par with the FY’26 forecast NAV per share of 1137p.
