The sale of trophy assets such as London’s luxury hotels has often fascinated commentators; for example the Savoy changed hands for £220m back in 1995 or £1m a room while the Ritz was sold, for only the third time in its 117-year history, for £800m during the Pandemic - a princely £6.1m per guest room - and a nice profit for the Barclay family on the £75m they paid for it in 1995.
