On 21 January Thorntons reported sales figures for the 28 weeks ended 11 January.  Overall, like-for-like sales growth was 1.6% and encouragingly was achieved with an improved margin.  The trading period was a tale of two halves, with the first 18 weeks enjoying  5.8% growth in same store sales.  However, in the following 7 week  period ending 28 December  like-for-like sales slowed to –0.9%, albeit against the strong comparative of +8.0% ayear ago.  The $64,000 question is whether this was simply the result of the well-documented tricky Christmas for retailers or something more fundamental to Thorntons recovery program.   Inspite of broker, Seymour Pierce's d ...
