The shares have risen nearly 20% following the news that Mercator had intersected high-grade gold mineralisation at Surprise, the second of three targets (each considered a potential 500,000 oz gold prospect) situated south of Meekatharra in Western Australia. Mercator considered this good enough to exercise its option to take up a 45% interest under the terms of its Annean joint venture with St Barbara Mines, which has been paid through issuing 20m new shares.
