Although one dry exploration well in Congo recently knocked sentiment in its shares, Burren’s prospects remain very strong. Its latest update showed average production in H2 on a working interest basis increasing to almost 31,310 barrels oil per day (bopd), compared to 29,100 in H1. In December, it increased again to 34,480 bopd but Burren’s net entitlement production remains stuck at just over 22,000 which reflects the increasing government share. In spite of a doubling of capex to US$180, Burren’s free cash flow was so strong that overall cash balances soared from US$40m to US$124m, thanks to production growth and the rise in oil prices.
