After smashing through the £7 mark for the first time, shares in self-storage firm Big Yellow fell out of bed after its quarterly update revealed details of its previously announced stumbling block with HM Revenue and Customs in its attempts to convert to REIT status. The bug-bear relates to whether its self storage revenues count as trading or rental income. After consulting its professional advisers, including leading Counsel, the company remains confident this problem will eventually be resolved. In the meantime, it’s business as usual with the core self-storage operations enjoying a 19% rise in revenue to £12.9m over the last year.
