Just Retirement (not listed in FT), which sells financial products offering a higher than normal income to retirees with lower than average life expectancy, has seemingly come from nowhere to take a very large slice of the financial services market. The difficult scramble to engineer a comfortable retirement has created huge demand for these so-called "enhanced annuities" and this has driven unprecedented growth for a company which from a standing start less than three years ago generated sales of nearly £300m in the year to 30 June 2006.
