Aquarius Platinum’s results for the six months to 31 December weresomewhat overshadowed by the epic rise in the platinum price to arecord high of US$1,850 per ounce, more than five times where it stoodback in 1999. This in turn helped the shares to a new high of 741p. Average platinum group metal (PGM) basket prices increased 24% toUS$1,502 / oz, which drove turnover 28% higher to US$424m, while netprofit increased 25% to US$106.6m. Earnings were 41.6 cents, while netcash increased US$81m to US$369m. The main downside is that the causeof those higher prices was a series of power cuts in South Africa,which has reduced power to 90% of normal levels.
