With merger and acquisition activity drying up, the storm clouds may be gathering over prospects for London-based bankers but at the other end of the financial spectrum, Jarvis Securities (FT sector: Not listed), which provides financial administration services to investment banks and stockbrokers, has shown no let-up in demand at all. At the start of last year Jarvis, a plucky minnow based in Tunbridge Wells, had been forecast to make a pretax profit of £1.4m but after numerous broker upgrades along the way it ultimately achieved a whopping £2.3m, which is double the level generated in 2006.
