One of the more remarkable aspects of the sell-off is that even companies with excellent track records and decent prospects find their share prices hammered on the basis of irrational fear. A good case in point is business events organiser Tarsus, which has increased pretax profit from Â£3m in 2004 to Â£11.9m in 2007, while brokers expect further growth to Â£16.3m this year.
