Half -year results, which were well-trailed  by its pre-close update, showed pretax profit rising 3% to £46.2m, while turnover was held at £375m. Net cash was £12.5m down from £25.5m but that implies strong cash generation considering last September's acquisition of the St Tropez self-tanning brand for £62.5m.For the first time in a while Cussons has had to contend with a number of headwinds and in Africa profits fell £0.1m to £13.7m reflecting reduced consumer spending.In its other large market, Europe, profits fell from £25m to £23.7m reflecting high levels of promotional activity, particularly on shower gel and hand wash products in response to a much more competitive environment.
