Another pub operator benefiting from weak comparatives from a year ago is Greene King, which reported an 8.2% increase (food:+11.2%) in managed pub like-for-like sales in the seven weeks to 15 January, while Christmas week itself saw a massive 17% increase. In the year to date, covering 37 weeks, sales rose 4.7%, with margins in line with last year. Meanwhile, in tenanted pubs Greene King achieved a 5.9% jump in EBITDA per pub and 3.4% increase in the first 36 weeks. Like Marstons, 99p, Greene King has started converting the struggling tenancies into franchisee style agreements and 23 “Meet & Eat†branded sites have been opened, which is expected to reach 40 by the year-end.
