Shares in self-storage firm Big Yellow, which we recommended at 393p in May 2013, have moved nicely to a new high of 529p as sentiment has improved towards the property sector. It also helps that its predominantly freehold estate is situated in London and the South East, where economic activity and asset prices have recovered the most. During the seasonally quiet Q3 ending 31 December occupancy within the wholly owned stores fell 96,000 sq. ft. compared with the previous three months to September. A more relevant comparison is that the closing occupancy across all stores was 2,315,000 or 67.7% occupancy, which represents a significant improvement on the 63.3% achieved a year ago.
