Lavendon - Strong Middle East trading defies oil slump

Investors’ worst fears, that low oil prices would hammer Lavendon’s key Middle East business, were the dog that didn’t bark and full year trading was at the top end of expectations.The company, which hires out powered access platforms to provide a safe way of working at height, noted that Q4 turnover growth in the Middle East (35% group profit) rose 10% against tough comparatives and driven by increased fleet utilisation. This was up from just 3% growth in Q3 and meant it grew 7% over the year. Qatar and UAE were particularly strong while sales growth more than offset pricing pressure in Saudi Arabia.
