Alexon - Strong recovery from Dolcis

Shares in ladies fashion retailer, Alexon, have inched towards the top of their trading range, following the release of excellent final results, in line with upwardly revised forecasts.  For the year ended January 2003, pretax profit increased almost 30% to £30.5m, on turnover up 6.6% to £398m, while earnings rose 39.8% to 35.1p.   Alexonbrands, which include Minuet, Kaliko  and Dash, only grew profitmarginally from £20.2m to £21m, with the biggest improvement comingfrom the three businesses Alexon acquired in 1999, Bay Trading, Styleand Dolcis shoes.  At that time they were loss-making but Alexonsaw them as a way to reduce its reliance on department storesales.  Last year Bay Trading doubled pro ...
