Oil exploration and production firm, Venture Production, can best be described as a scavenger in the sense that it acquires stranded oil and gas fields that their previous owners no longer regard as economic. While this may sound an unorthodox strategy, it has proved highly effective as since 1999, Venture has seen its production take off from just 200 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) to an expected 45,000 by the end of 2005. Given that this growth is coinciding with a period of high prices, it's hardly surprising that the shares have recently broken through their all-time high.
