For the year ended 31 December TanzaniteOne saw pretax profit rise 180% to US$12.9m, on turnover up 156% to US$41.1m. Earnings rose just 62% to 13.9 cents but that reflected a higher tax charge with tax losses having been utilised. Year end cash was US$8.3m. These results were slightly less than forecast, with the shortfall directly related to a reduction in the quality of tanzanite mined in the second half, with H2 only generating US$3.9m compared with US$9m in H1. However, taking the year as a whole there were some positives, notably an increase in average rough tanzanite prices achieved from US$9 to US$11 per carat, while overall grade increased by 12% to 55 carats a tonne.
