Shares in Carter & Carter have recovered sharply on apparent relief that it has walked away from acquiring professional education services firm BPP, 692p after neither side could agree on price. BPP (market value: £345m) was probably too big a morsel to swallow and Carter can now re-focus on its core business, which has just released good results. In the seasonally quiet first half ended 31 January, these showed turnover rising 64% to £62.2m, aided by first-time contributions from five acquisitions made.
