White Young Green, a consulting engineer focusing in areas such as town planning, cost management and environmental audits, has established itself as a firm favourite among investors. Back in 1999, the company had just posted a pretax profit of £2.8m on turnover of £35m but since then it has accelerated rapidly with the latest forecast for the current year to 30 June pointing to pretax profit rising to nearly £16m on turnover of around £208m. Part of the secret lies with the remarkably long period of benign economic conditions both in terms of Government funded work and more recently in the private sector, where low interest rates has fuelled a boom in the property and construction sectors.
