Shares in Powerflute, which manufactures semi-chem fluting for the paper industry, that is the corrugated element within the cardboard box designed to prevent damage to perishable goods, have bounced sharply after it announced reassuring results. For the year ended 31 December turnover increased 18% to Eu115m while pretax profit rose 117% to Eu12.5m. Eps rose 110% to 71p. Encouragingly net debt fell nearly Eu8m to Eu25.6m. Growth came through a 3% increase in volumes to nearly 261,000 tonnes at its Finland-based paper mill, although the increase would have been higher but for wood shortages following a short winter last year in the Baltic and Nordic regions.
